The Girls’ Education Challenge in Ethiopia, 2016
The video highlights the work that is being done by the Link Community Development Ethiopia project in Ethiopia through the Girls’ Education Challenge (GEC). The GEC is funded by the UK’s Department of International Development (and managed by PwC).
The video includes interviews with students, teachers and project staff and highlights the ways the project is working with the Ethiopian government to get girls into school, improve their learning and have a positive impact on their lives and their communities.
Involve Me, Watch Me
By providing training, support, encouragement and role models, we created the environment for girls to empower themselves by giving them the necessary skills and opportunities to make their on films on themes impacting their education and their lives.
"Involve me" features twelve randomly selected girls from four woredas in Wolaita Zone, consulting and making one minute films on the six obstacles to their education: menstruation, reproductive health, domestic chores, early marriage, HIV and attitudes towards girls' education.
The hands-on, interactive process of writing, acting and filming their own one minute videos gave the girls confidence to become role models to all those who view their films and read these books.
This video introduces Solar Connect, a DFID-funded programme in the Dedza district of Malawi that improves school management, increases teaching and learning time, and provides quality teaching materials and access to IT technology.
